When I got my first job at the age of 15, my mom encouraged me to open a savings account at the Credit Union next door to the grocery store that I worked at. Years later, that money served me well when I went off to college.
Love your mom’s thinking too about not being afraid to spend on yourself sometimes. There are a lot of us “frugal” types who are just straight stingy with their money – never allowing ourselves to have fun. I learned more from watching mom deal with her finances. Modestly smart about how she handled it – investing it after my dad passed. Living within her means. Giving generously to her church / causes.

That’s awesome, Eddie. And good for you for taking her advice.

As they say, more will be caught than taught. Sounds like you mom set a great example, Aaron!
