Protecting Yourself Online

Walletpop recently put together an excellent list of resources for educating yourself and your kids about safe surfing on the Internet.  The piece recommended a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) web site geared toward adults and a site for parents from an organization called Common Sense Media that offers guidance based on their child’s age.  The story then highlighted a number of resources for kids such as the FTC’s You Are Here site that includes a security plaza where kids learn about protecting their identity whether online or offline.  Another site, this one developed by the Girl Scouts, offers advice about social media.  Some of the recommended sites, such as the one from Common Sense, go beyond privacy or identity theft issues to include other helpful advice about navigating our media-centric world.
